Training

Stenkil Gundogs offers professional training for your gundog or every day companion. Age, level or size doesn’t matter, we’re here for you and your individual goals. All sessions and programs will be tailored for your dog to make sure we set it off on the right path. Methods of training are discussed at first consultation as well as the different paths the dog can go. Dogs spend their time being an pet even if they live in a household of avid hunters so we will put a lot of emphasis on how to behave in those regular day settings also and just hunting dog environments. We want happy and confident dogs both in the field and at the house.

Consultation is mandatory to assess dog, set expectations and potential timelines. Individual programs are set on a month to month basis.

David’s method and look on training

I look at the training and nurturing of dogs with a very open mind. Not a day goes by without me learning a new lesson, thing, drill, a new way of getting from A to B.

I have my principles and set of cornerstones I refuse to revert from, but apart from that I try to be like an open book when handling these incredible animals. One principle I will never get away from is, that just like us, every dog is different and they will require a slight different way of handling. Because there is no magic formula that works on every dog you have to be able to adapt and be open to doing slightly differently every time.

Another principle I have is that training starts at 8 weeks. Puppies are like a blank page or book and they’re looking every day for their pages to be filled. Little by little in the most positive manner possible you should try and fill out the pages. It’s important to remember though that you can also fill in with bad experiences that can cement and fester for a long time and some are impossible to scribble out once its in there and thats why it’s so important to think about the why.

Why am I showing the lead, taking the puppy to the dog food store, training for 5 minutes at a time and so on. All of these different segments are what helps shape the dog to how it’ll be as an adult.

All of these things is what drives me to do this every day, over and over again for the dog or the dogs and for the benefit of the owner. Being trusted with a families companion is something I don’t take lightly and cannot express enough gratitude in being trusted to do so.

Owner lessons

Hourly lessons available for individuals or groups depending on dog age and skill set. These lessons are a great opportunity to start a new journey, solve specific problems or take the owner and dog to the next level. It’s as much for the owner as for the dog. We put a lot of weight on creating a deeper connection, reading body language and understanding why our dogs do certain things in different moments.

Trained dogs

We sell dogs trained and ready for a forever home. Dogs are carefully selected from our own puppies or from kennels that has been vetted rigorously. We are happy to tailor training for specific needs. We Our dogs do well both in homes and in the field.

The two different age groups are 10-16 months and 16-24 months.

  • These young critters will be well mannered in the house, riding in the car, how to act around other dogs and farm animals.

They will respond to voice, whistle and hand commands which will serve you well both in the field and at home. The dog will have an intermediate gundog level and will be familiar with upland, waterfowl and driven shooting.

  • The foundation and cornerstones from month 10-16 are further enforced. At this point we have progressed past the teenage stage and more can be expected. The dog will excel in all environments it’s had exposure to and comes with new owner satisfaction guarantee
