Our Mission & Commitment
David Johansson founded Stenkil Gundogs in 2023 with the ambition to offer positive and reward based training to the American West and beyond. All methods and training are based on the dog at hand and will be individual, as every dog is different.
David’s commitment to excellence ensures that each training session is tailored to your dog's unique needs. Trust in the process, and witness the transformation as your beloved companion thrives under David’s guidance.
Together, we will embark on a journey of growth and companionship, solidifying the special bond between you and your dog. Embrace the power of positive reinforcement and let's pave the way for a harmonious relationship with your canine companion.
Our Story
David’s journey with dogs started a long time ago in south western Sweden as a young boy on his grandfather’s (Erling) farm. Apart from being an avid hunter, Erling also ran a kennel business for most of his adult life and bred Swedish Drever, which is a type of hound.
David would spend many days at the kennel and accompanying Erling to the Swedish kennel club held show trials. From here, the fire was first lit, but it would take good number of years before David got his hands on his first dog.
After a trip to the U.S. in 2015, David was introduced to Driven Shooting and the use of labradors and different spaniels on the gun line. A new world opened before him as he’d not seen anything quite like it and it became his quest to acquire his first dog, Perdix Gundogs Gary Moore “Giggs”.
In 2018, David moved stateside with Giggs to work for esteemed and reputable Blixt & Co. This is to this day the only true driven pheasant and partridge shoot in the United States
During his 6 years at Blixt & Co, David held many roles but they all included working labs, cocker spaniels & springers. From 2022 until his departure, he worked exclusively as Kennel Manager which gave him crucial experience in applying the practice of positive and reward based training and to see it flourish.
After having spent the summer of 2024 in Salt Lake City, David and the SG team are heading to Condon, OR to work for Highland Hills Ranch as a guide. During this time we will still take dogs for training but it will be exclusive to the upland game.
